Trump says missing US crew member from downed jet rescued in ‘daring’ operation in Iran
- An American crew member rescued after being shot down in a fighter jet over Iran is “SAFE and SOUND”, Donald Trump says
- The operation to rescue the airman led to an engagement between US and Iranian forces, our White House reporter Bernd Debusmann Jr was told
- The weapon systems officer was aboard a US F-15 that was shot down in southern Iran. A pilot who was also on board was rescued earlier, Trump confirms
- Iran and the US were in a race to locate the crew member, with Iranian officials offering cash rewards to citizens to find them “alive”
- The rescue comes as both Iran and the US traded threats to unleash “hell”, as strikes across the region continue
- Earlier Trump again threatened increased strikes should Iran not make a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in the next 48 hours, an ultimatum that Tehran has so far rejected
